FBR Tax Return Deadline 2026: Dates, Extensions & What You Need

6 min readFinancial Reports

Few things cause more avoidable stress than the annual tax return deadline. Every year the same scramble repeats: missing documents, rushed reconciliations, and a portal that slows to a crawl as the date approaches. Here is what you need to know to file calmly in 2026.

When is the FBR tax return deadline?

For most individuals and associations of persons, the FBR sets the annual income tax return deadline at 30 September following the tax year. Companies with a different financial year-end follow their own schedule. The FBR frequently announces short extensions, but treating the original date as firm is the only safe strategy — extensions are never guaranteed and often arrive at the last minute.

Don't plan around an extension

An extension is a reprieve, not a right. Businesses that file on the assumption of an extension are the ones most exposed when it doesn't come, or comes with conditions.

Sales tax returns are monthly

Separate from the annual income tax return, sales-tax-registered businesses file a monthly sales tax return (ST-3), typically due mid-month for the previous month. Keeping these monthly returns clean is what makes the annual return painless — the year-end picture is just the sum of months you have already reconciled.

Documents you'll need

  • Your complete sales register (ideally already reported to FBR)
  • Purchase invoices and input-tax records
  • Withholding tax statements and challans
  • Bank statements and reconciliations
  • Last year's return and any carried-forward balances

The stress-free way to be ready

The businesses that file early all have one thing in common: their records were ready the whole time. When your sales flow through FBR digital invoicing and your books update automatically, the annual return is a report you generate — not a project you dread. See how TaxHub's reports keep you filing-ready year-round.
